During his tenure as Assistant Chief, Chief Jones played a crucial role in the department's evolution by facilitating the recruitment and integration of the agency's first career firefighters. This strategic initiative not only enhanced the department's operational capabilities but also laid the foundation for a more robust and professional firefighting force.​

Building upon this foundation, Chief Jones championed the development of several specialized response teams, including Water Rescue, Dive Rescue, Hazardous Materials Response, Trench Rescue, and Rope Rescue. Through meticulous planning, inter-agency collaboration, and the establishment of rigorous training protocols, these teams have become integral components of the department's comprehensive emergency response strategy, significantly elevating community safety standards.​

Beyond his operational achievements, Chief Jones was a dedicated mentor and educator, committed to nurturing the next generation of fire service professionals. He established the first recruit school held by the department, contributing to the advancement of the fire service industry.​
